Hellfighters is a 1968 American adventure film directed by Andrew V. McLaglen and starring John Wayne, Katharine Ross and Jim Hutton.Is about a group of oil well firefighters, based loosely on the life of Red Adair.Adair, "Boots" Hansen, and "Coots" Matthews served as technical advisers on the film. Jim Hutton is quite handsome. It was redesignated for the 569th Field Artillery Battalion on 14 August 1956. During the oil rig fire in the opening scene, it is revealed that basic fire safety measures were not in place. It was redesignated for the 369th Coast Artillery Regiment on 3 December 1940.

It was something that people in parts of the country where you have seen a rig burn for a month while they try to put it out, where family members or friends have died in oil rig disasters, the movie gave life to the names that they have heard, to see what these men do and fall in love with this hard knocking, hard living, danger loving men. Despite (or maybe because of) the simple plot and even simpler characters, this film remains one of my favorites from the 1960's.
Again, watch it for what it is and leave it alone. Great action and old time effects, action sets.
